    Equipment Investments
The pressures of competition, environmental regulations and the need to make a profit require a streamlined, cost-effective company. Equipment such as trucks, backhoes, and riding mowers are capital investments and an important component in cost-effective management. large portion of business profits may be invested or designated toward major equipment purchase. Before a decision is made to acquire new equipment, there must be careful consideration of the allocation of present and future cash assets to cover equipment costs.

    Equipment Rental and Subcontracting
It may not be worth purchasing machines that a business uses only occasionally. In this situation, the options are equipment rental or subcontracting the work. Either way, any work that requires use of that machine (possibly on more than one job) should be coordinated so it can be accomplished at the same time. Rental rates from contractors may be substantially lower than those of equipment dealers, depending on economic conditions. Contractor rentals can include the skilled operator of the machine and its transportation.

    Equipment Purchase and Leasing
Before you purchase any major unit of equipment, you will probably want to determine whether it is more cost efficient than continuing to get by with old equipment. To perform this analysis you need to collect and compare information on the old machine versus a new one. Factors to be considered include: Price of new vs. resale value of old. Projected loss of value in the next year from use and depreciation. Operating costs per hour, based on the projected life cycle (or hours of use). Other factors, such as projected repairs and down time.

    Quality Sub-Contractors Equal Profitability
Start and maintaining a business nowadays in a very volatile construction industry can be compared to a salmon swimming up stream. Occasionally there are those pockets of calm waters allowing your company to press forward with minimal effort, but like every river, there are always those obstacles that can and will bring your progress to a screeching halt, and the walls you need to scale at these times may seem insurmountable. But with a little help, your business, like the salmon, eventually make it to their ultimate destination. You can pay $3-$5/hr less, but are really making or saving money?

DirtPail DirtTip - Lien Waiver Is Your Insurance
Times are tough, and there are more do-it-yourselfers out there trying to save a buck or two wherever and whenever they can. Hiring a qualified contractor to put those final finishing touches are often needed to close a project up. Being loyal to your wallet with this decision understandable, but also understand that sometimes reputable businesses have problems with money, especially when the industry has been on hard times for an extended period. Materials like aggregate and stone need to be paid for up front by the contractor, as well other related costs, and paid for upon completion.

One of the benefits of having a construction website with a blog is being able to share your knowledge and insight with those that may be, well. interested in what you have to say. Some consider themselves experts, while others just consider. suppose anyone can proclaim their information to be "dead on", but what one offers is only as good what one gets out of it. Pooling resources is one place is great idea, but when that great idea gets teamed with someone who not only understands the industry, but is also a visible and respected by those same individuals, that is an unbeatable combination.

    Be Aware of Posted Roads
With a new construction season at hand, many contractors are eager to get the rust off other shovels, lube in the gears, and money flowing through their books. The planning stages are many, and the details need to be verified that everything is a "Green Light", or good-to-go so to speak. An when a diamond-in-the-rough like a free fill dump site is found, one of the most important details that tends to be overlooked is making sure that any road postings affecting productivity have been lifted.

I've been checking out my website, and for the most part, I really like it. It has multiple tools to help customers in with dirt related issues, advertising, classifieds, and so on and so on. It looks good, and functions well, and the monetary and logistical benefits make it even more attractive, let alone it being free of charge. Free Dirt Fill Options
Whether you are a multi-million dollar excavating contractor, or just a homeowner looking for a little help, the process of finding, or disposing of dirt fill can be a very costly endeavour. Costly? These two words in the same sentence may seem like an oxy-moron to most. you know, two words that don't make much sense in unison, like "jumbo" and "shrimp". Now, add one the most favorite words in the English language. and you get an equation that seems at times, almost impossible to solve. Maybe posting your request in the grocery store when exiting may get you a nibble or two.

There is no doubt that the hype generated for this years Super Bowl has been like no other in the past couple of years. Last year EVERYONE picked the Colts to take care ot the Saints, and a couple years prior, only a drunken sailor would have picked the NY Giants to have even a pulse against the undefeated and power house New England Patriots. But as we all know fate is a funny thing, and when adversity is staring you right in the face, sometimes you just have to punch it square in the teeth. By the end of the night, all will be good and both teams fans part in good will. the Seahawks.

They are synonymous with anything that needs to be moved, whether that is dirt, coal, salt, limestone, and the list goes on. In one fluid and seemingly effortless motion, a machine standing stories tall can take one scoop weighing about 40,000 pounds, and place it on the back of another corporate giant. What took Mother Nature millions of years to produce and place, is now relocated within seconds for distribution around the world.

    Dirt. The Next Commodity?!
Let's be honest. dirt has never ranked among the elites of commodities world. Gold, silver, platinum. all traded by brokers worldwide on a daily basis, unlike dirt, which is basically looked at as. The exception to this train of thought would of course be the farmer, who depends on "Mother Earth" to supply nutrients to his crops year after year. In a monetary sense, you could probably compare dirt to something just as abundant, like salt. The difference being that during ancient times, it is commonly believed that Roman soldiers were at certain times paid with salt. Let's put it this way.

Nonresidential building construction spending declined 1.1% % in May
Downward revisions for this sector in recent months and in the annual comprehensive revision suggest that the Census Bureau is missing more post start project shutdowns than it is missing project starts. In turn, this suggests that nonresidential construction is still weakening. The near term spending trend is at best unchanged until the end of the year. With activity near the bottom for this building cycle, expect brief month-to-month expansion spurts for some types of projects through the summer but no sustained expansion until yearend. Institutional construction spending fell 0.9% in May.

Residential construction spending declined 0.4% in May
Single family construction spending rose 0.8% in May but this was more than offset by a large fall in multi family construction spending and a small drop in residential remodeling. Expect the trends to reverse in the next few months. The end of the homebuyer tax credit will trim single family homebuilding for several months. Already, there have been steep May declines in permits, starts and home purchase mortgage applications. While the multi family construction spending trend is still down into the fall, the large May drop was random and not a sustainable trend. Annual Figures. Actual. Apr-10.

    Dirt and Technology
It seems quite evident that the situation at hand, finding free fill, free dirt, or even free dump sites, is a growing predicament that is expanding every day. The exodus of families, and businesses for that matter, relocating to remote locales to find their little piece of paradise is making the process of moving dirt an issue with fewer options. Finding dump sites years ago was at times as easy a a short drive to the country, maybe talking to a farmer who wanted to level out some planting acreage, or simply buying a piece of land for your own use. The Chicken or the Egg? like DIRT?

At the presentation, the attending members were very impressed with how easy it is to navigate through the site, as well as its content.
