Train4TradeSkills News: Apprenticeships the way forward for Scottish construction firms
The Scottish government is committing itself to increase the number of apprenticeships in the next few years, and have said they will have created around 25,000 apprenticeships so far this year. Federation Chief Executive Michael Levack has said: “The public procurement system could do a great deal more to recognise the significant efforts many building firms are making in continuing to offer apprenticeships in the face of such tough trading conditions. We’ve provided funding for 250,000 extra apprenticeships – but not enough big companies are delivering. But you’ve got to show more leadership and give us the apprenticeships we need.”. Nick Hayward, CEO of leading vocational training provider Apprenticeship Training Limited (ATL), the practical training centre of Train4TradeSkills, welcomed the address of the Prime Minister and stated the company’s commitment to deliver a better future for its students. Mr Cameron asked businesses to show good leadership and to adapt quickly to the challenges Britain is facing.

Swansea Council doing their bit to create construction jobs and apprenticeships
Swansea Council’s apprenticeship scheme is one of a number of initiatives by the council to ensure that local contractors are hired for local projects. Swansea Council are doing their bit to help the construction industry by helping tradespeople find work. They are believed to be looking for plumbers to fill some of the roles. A North – South Apprenticeships Divide Doesn’t Mean Less Training Opportunities
A new study published today by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has revealed an emerging North-South divide on the number of apprenticeships taken in England. The research shows that young people from the North of England are 70% more likely to enrol on an apprenticeship than their counterparts in affluent areas of London and the South East. He thinks the interest in becoming a qualified professional extends beyond the usual apprenticeship age. added Director Mike Head.

Train4TradeSkills practical training fulfilment centre visited by the BBC
Train4TradeSkills fulfilment centre ATL, Apprenticeship Training Limited, was visited by BBC Hereford and Worcester. Young people across Worcestershire are being hired as a result of a national apprenticeship scheme which aims to provide better employment opportunities and tackle youth unemployment. The number of young people starting apprenticeships in Worcester this year has doubled compared to the same time in 2010 according to government statistics.
