CONSTRUCTION KNOWLEGE | MONDAY, AUGUST 20, 2012 Cheaters Just Don’t Win: How Target Uncovered a Bid-Rigging CM Target claims LCH conspired with paving contractors in California, Wisconsin, Texas and Illinois to inflate prices, rig bids, fix prices, misrepresent work being done and distribute kickbacks. LCH did this by denying some contractors a chance to bid, by getting some contractors to submit bids they knew were too high, and by fraudulently inflating legitimate, lower bids when it filed reports with Target, the suit says. When a new technology is introduced to the construction industry, contractors inevitably ask themselves one question “Great, how can this new gadget get me into trouble?” But, BIM has been around for a few years now, and the construction industry has done a good job of curtailing the fear of unanticipated legal liability. BUILDERS COUNSEL | THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2011 Senate Passes Washington Contractor Bidding Preference Bill Using that survey, Washington woud provide a reciprocal bidder preference (to the same amount permitted in the bidding contractor’s home state) to Washington contractors bidding for public projects. More Costly Public Works Projects: A bidding preference statute will also cost state and local governments additional money in awarding public works projects in the amount of the bidding preference percentage authorized by other states.
