What is your opinion on the £13.5 million residential job given to Galliford Try? | CONSTRUCTION LAW MONITOR MARCH 9, 2012 Construction Contracts – Pay Now to Save Later All to often in my job I am faced with clients who end up in a dispute on a construction project. Whether it be a public or private, commercial or residential, and no matter how large or small the project or contractor, the first question I ask any potential client is – where’s the contract? The contract is the cornerstone of any construction project and eventual dispute. ’ 3.A | FLOOR DU JOUR MARCH 5, 2012 The Best Flooring For a Condominium When installing new flooring in a condominium, you have to take more into consideration than how the floor will perform. You’ve got neighbors to think about, and it’s not just how much they might hear you, but how much you might hear them. No one likes listening to their neighbors pace across a room or listen to the rumblings of life over our heads. And if you live in a condo or even a multi-level home, the type of floor you choose can greatly reduce the sound that travels through the floor. When a high density pad is used, well-made carpet can do an excellent job. | TRAIN4TRADESKILLS MARCH 8, 2012 Council Contractors to Create New Building and Construction Jobs Stevenage Borough Council has signed a £26 million housing redevelopment scheme to modernise and improve thousands of council houses in the town by the end of 2015. COLLABORATIVE CONSTRUCTION | THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 2012 Buildings that Repair Themselves? The article / interview linked below explores the concept of future generation building materials that have the capacity to repair themselves. I've advocated taking that concept to the next level and utilizing advanced materials to enable buildings to "dissolve" or otherwise self-demolish in an environmentally friendly way. The other possibility, which is likely to be available sooner than either of those sci-fi concepts is the use of modules to build, ala Legos. Currently, the best our architecture can be is carbon-neutral. You are looking to nature to go one step further? James L. MORE >> -

Talked to a $3M contractor this week who is now using a General Contractor program (American Contractor) which has been discontinued by the vendor. He is left with option of acquiring another program from that vendor which involves spending $5K to move over his data plus $15-20K for the software for a 5 user system. That’s a lot to spend for a 5 user system, especially since he is a current user. And why is he being charged for moving data between software sold by the same vendor? He can probably replace it with a new integrated job cost/project management solution for $12-18K total. MORE >> - Interesting Bridge Technology COLLABORATIVE CONSTRUCTION | MONDAY, MARCH 5, 2012
