| | MARKUP AND PROFIT JANUARY 23, 2012 Connecting with Potential Clients One of the things I hear from contractors all too often is that they send out a mailing piece, or they place an ad in a newspaper or magazine and they get little or no response. The same could be said for websites. They spend money building their website and they get few if any calls. If you aren’t getting a response to your advertising, either printed or on the web, you aren’t connecting with your potential clients. You must connect with them. The first connection you make with them is your company name. Your potential clients first want to know if you can do their job. But, building what? | BRAND CONSTRUCTION JANUARY 27, 2012 Branding vs. Traditional Marketing We’ve been talking about the difference between brand marketing and other forms of promotion. Last week we discussed how advertising was different and this week, it’s traditional marketing’s turn. Traditional marketing is a targeted approach to promotion. Traditional marketing works even better with niche markets; envision a high powered rifle with a scope. | HTRC JANUARY 21, 2012 Are you up to the Challenge – the Building America Challenge? EVERBLUE | THURSDAY, JANUARY 26, 2012 Obama on U.S. Energy Independence During the State of the Union address Tuesday, President Obama outlined plans to create a nation that’s “built to last,” underlining many key energy policies that will assist in energy independence. One of the primary aspects of his speech involved decreasing investments on foreign oil, not only from a sustainability standpoint, but also in terms of increasing our national security. The increased tensions in the Middle East coupled with continued economic reliance on foreign oil has created a real threat to the stability of America’s energy needs. read more MORE >> -
TEMPEST BLOG | FRIDAY, JANUARY 27, 2012 Trusting the Craft Labor For some reason, some managers believe that always telling the craft labor the project is losing money is a good way to increase the productivity but I don’t see the logic behind this strategy. I believe being honest to the workers in the field is the one and only way to go. . Lying does nothing but demoralizes the employees and will not encourage them to increase their productivity. In general, people want to do a good job and take pride in the work they do. Telling them how the job is progressing is another way of saying they are doing a good job which can actually make them work harder. MORE >> -
