The report said, “If home building were like health care, carpenters, electricians and plumbers each would work with different blueprints, with very little coordination.” I found this test today about the outrageous failure of our Medical system to regulate costs and in turn raise Patient care. The test shows exactly how badly managed the system is. Much was made years ago with regards to the Department of Defense and the 10K Toilet Seats. The quiz is there with the appropriate answers already marked. health care system. | GREEN GODDESS SEPTEMBER 8, 2012 The Bill Has Arrived Builders rely on blueprints to coordinate the work of carpenters, electricians, and plumbers. I share with you this infographic from the recent report from the Institute of Medicine on the high cost, no I mean WASTE, of Medical care in this country. Over 750 BILLION dollars is spent in excess annually with regards to medical care. And yet 60% of personal bankruptcy's are filed due to the costs of this waste. It certainly isn't care that we are getting. We are getting shafted. This is the free market that they keep talking about but there is no such thing as a free lunch. | | | | | | | GREEN GODDESS OCTOBER 3, 2012 Boot Camp For Dummies This used to be relegated to pretty much the Trades - Construction, Plumbers, Electricians. The tech industry is busy having boot camps to teach the new nerds how to create some useless app or site that they can in turn sell to a larger more established company that really is doing it as a way of hiring the staff. Yes that is really what all that is. Not any more. The next is appearance. | GREEN GODDESS MARCH 21, 2013 Build Me Up Some, like the 38-year-old electrician Gideon Jacks, are gingerly returning to construction work after taking a hiatus (in Mr. Jacks’s case, the hiatus was in several low-paying jobs at restaurants), but others remain reluctant to return to the hard physical labor and unstable job prospects. Supply and Demand. Basic rules of consumer economics. Suddenly housing demand is up and in turn leads to a rise in prices. Now if Banks are lending, at what rates and terms and if people are able to actually afford and maintain said homes are not part of this equation but should be. Where are they? | GREEN GODDESS SEPTEMBER 16, 2012 Have Degree? Work for Free Electricians, plumbers, sheet metal and other trades have long relied on apprentice style levels of training to build experience in exchange for education and in turn lower wages. I never experienced internships when I was in school. The only fields that did such were usually trade related apprenticeships and there was the long term promise and commitment of a job. To Ms. | GREEN GODDESS APRIL 18, 2013 Anyone There? This broad description also fits numerous skilled trade and repair occupations—plumbers, builders, electricians, HVAC installers, automotive technicians—marketing occupations, and even modern clerical occupations that provide coordination and decision-making functions rather than simply typing and filing. GREEN GODDESS | MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2012 Nous sommes tous américains François Béharel, the president of Randstad France, a branch of the multinational employment agency, said that the problem of youth unemployment among the educated is worsening at a time when employers are crying out for engineers, computer technicians, electricians and welders. We are all American is what that translates to mean. As I wrote about the problems regarding similar situations with American and English youth, in our mulinational economy those "Socialist" French are finding similar problems with their young. Ah to be young, French and unemployed. it used to be amour. Ah well. MORE >> -
GREEN GODDESS | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2012 Strangers No Longer Mr. Abruzzo, an electrician who had lived in the neighborhood for a decade, saw Mr. Dresch on Monday. After my accident and I realized I was just a SINK not worthy of receiving proper Medical care or Legal support I have taken it upon myself to remember those who may or may not be SINK's in the conventional sense of how I define it (remember words and titles one defines are largely the responsibility of the one defining it) but are still worth noting. know if I had died that night no one would know or care about why I really died. It never ends. Not Forgotten. Not Good. She caught fire. MORE >> -
GREEN GODDESS | SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2012 Its Not How Hard He was enrolling in the Job Corps program, and they agreed they would pay down the bills together after he became an electrician. Its just the fact that you fall that matters. And what is the real issue is there is no one there to pick you up. frequently say the fall from the curb to the gutter is short but its a mighty hard one. Ours is a system so broken, so damaged that survival is not of the fittest its just of the lucky and/or the wealthy. The safety nets you believe exist don't or they are so corroded they are useless. Unless you want to talk about the non elephant in the room. MORE >> -
GREEN GODDESS | FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2012 Its Raining Men That is because carpenters, bricklayers, roofers, painters, electricians, plumbers and carpet installers have largely been left out of the economic recovery. This morning this article was on the front page of the New York Times regarding the surplus of skilled crafstman seeking work via Craigslist. As one who used to advertise on Craigslist and use the site to hire, buy and resell items; I used to find it a valuable tool, both professionally and personally. For security purposes I no longer use Craigslist unless it is for a minor transaction. Clearly its needed. The outlook is grim. MORE >> -
GREEN GODDESS | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2011 Green Build - America Mike Wilhelm, an electrician, went from six employees to two. Today I read a great article about a builder's challenge to himself. to build green and to build by using only American made products to accomplish this means. And what is great about this? Well that a builder is still pushing energy efficiency, green build and still why staying true to his roots. Mr. Lewendal is not a green liberal latte drinker and yet here he is espousing very green views but more importantly views anyone on any side of a political fence can agree - building for America with American products.
