Eddy currents are used and resistive heating takes place. In ferromagnetic induction welding hysteresis heating occurs. Induction Welding What is induction welding? Induction welding is similar to resistance welding. In resistance welding, however, the current is delivered through contacts to the work piece, instead of induction. The EMF distorts the. | WELD MY WORLD JANUARY 10, 2012 Types of Welding Ovens Industrial welding ovens can be used as preheating ovens or for post-heating. They are used by welders and fabricators to heat-treat weldments or metallic parts. Commonly heated items include ship bearings, cylinder heads, castings, welded joints, plates, aluminum, carbon steel joints, and pumps. You'll find welding rod and flux ovens used in a variety of industries including: aerospace, shipbuilding, oil, and construction. Rebake vs. Holding To properly maintain stick welding electrodes you'll need to know the difference between rebaking and holding. | | | | | | | WELD MY WORLD JULY 18, 2011 The Art of TIG Welding The low heat of a TIG welder leaves a small weld seam and provides a very precise weld that is neat and clean with minimal distortion to the metal being joined together. TIG welding is the most popular form of welding in the field of metal art sculpture. However, TIG welding can take some time to learn, and therefore it’s important to gather some tips before getting started. Welding Projects | WELD MY WORLD JUNE 27, 2011 How to Choose a Plasma Cutter They are particularly popular with large cutting operations because they don’t require a pre-heating cycle, cut a wide variety of metals, and cut with a small kerf (the name for the area that is cut) that doesn’t warp or damage the metal. Plasma cutters provide a simple, clean, and efficient way to safely cut metal. Perhaps the biggest drawback to a plasma cutter is the up front cost that ranges from $1,000 to $3,000. This means you’ll need to carefully plan your purchase, making sure you make the best choice possible. | WELD MY WORLD OCTOBER 21, 2011 Save an additional 5% on ALL Tillman Products! Baker's Bargains | WELD MY WORLD SEPTEMBER 12, 2011 Exothermic Welding An exothermic reaction requires no external heat or current source. The reaction occurs between a copper thermite composition that heats the copper. Exothermic welding is also known as exothermic bonding, thermite welding, or thermit welding. It was developed around 1895 by Hans Goldschmidt. The process was refined by Dr. Charles Cadwell, who performed the first non-ferrous application. Exothermic welding was first used to weld signal bonds to railroad tracks. Exothermic welding is often used to join copper conductors. Special Welding Processes, Techniques | | | | | | | | | -
WELD MY WORLD | TUESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2012 Atomic Hydrogen Welding The electric arc that is used breaks up the hydrogen molecules which later recombine and produce an extensive amount of heat that can reach temperatures between 3400 – 4000 degrees Celsius. Atomic hydrogen welding, also known as AHW, is an arc welding technique that uses an arc which is located between two tungsten electrodes and a hydrogen shielding gas. This welding technique was discovered by Irving Langmuir while he was studying atomic hydrogen. The ability to reach such high temperatures makes this welding process one of the third hottest flames produced. MORE >> -

WELD MY WORLD | THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2011 What Is Electron Beam Welding? The materials then melt as the kinetic energy of the electrons produces heat, and any filler metal that happens to be used also melts to create the weld. Electron beam welding is a welding technique where a beam of high-velocity electrons are applied to the materials that are being welded. This type of welding is most commonly performed in a vacuum to prevent the dispersion of the electron beam that is used. This process of welding was created in 1958 by Karl-Heinz Steigerwald. While this process is a favorite to weld certain metals, it cannot be used on all metals. MORE >> -
WELD MY WORLD | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2011 Welding Thin Using GMAW In years past, if gas metal arc welding was to be used to weld heat sensitive metal, short circuiting or dip-arc methods needed to be used. New developments in gas metal arc welding have been perfected to provide the welder with greater control over the arc and heat input to allow for the wire welding. Developments in the gas metal arc welding process have found a way to produce almost perfect joints in very thin metal. This would require molten droplets at the end of the electrode wire to be short circuited to the work piece multiple times per second. MORE >> -
WELD MY WORLD | WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2011 Blacksmithing vs. Welding Black" being the color of heated metal, "smithing" is the activity; from the word smite, to hit. When oxides form on the surface of the metal during heating, fire scale forms. The word blacksmithing is a compound word coming from two words. blacksmith, therefore, is the person who creates objects from wrought iron or steel by forging the metal. Blacksmiths use tools to shape their pieces. Special Welding Processes, Techniques MORE >> - Ultrasonic Plastic Welding WELD MY WORLD | WEDNESDAY, JULY 6, 2011
