The UK’s largest employers group, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), has appealed to the government to stimulate economic growth by investing more into infrastructure projects. Although the building construction sector remains one of the most stable industries in the UK, the CBI thinks greater investment is needed for infrastructure projects to encourage continual growth and business confidence. Following its earlier success in providing a bespoke scaffolding and access system for renovation work at Gare Du Nord railway station in Paris, Harsco Infrastructure has now almost completed a second project, at the city’s Gare Saint-Lazare station. Impressed by the capabilities and expertise which Harsco had shown on the first project, main contractor Spie SCGPM asked the company to repeat the process at Gare Saint-Lazare. Infrastructure TransportationThe barge and towing industry is lobbying Congress to spend more on fixing locks and dams and overhauling the way the government finances and oversees river projects, according to an article today in The Wall Street Journal. 20-year capital development plan by the Inland Waterways Users Board, which monitors use of the fuel tax, calls for the Corps to spend $7.6 billion to fix the lock-and-dam system over the next 20 years, with both the industry and the government paying more. The Prime Minister has launched an “all-out mission” to boost the economy and open up a series of major infrastructure projects. David Cameron wrote in the Financial Times that he is focused on updating the UK’s infrastructure and launching new projects, which will in turn create new jobs and rebuild the economy. The Prime Minister wrote: “Our focus is on updating our infrastructure. In terms of future productivity, this infrastructure deficit is as serious as our budget deficit.
